Welcome to Portrait of the Month. Each Month I will post photographs of one of today's leading LPGA players and a brief question and answer session.
This month's golfer:
LPGA rising star Paula Creamer
At 19 years old Paula Creamer is ahead of
her time when it comes to golf. A rookie on the LPGA tour, Paula
has had an incredible start in this most difficult game we call
golf. Paula turned professional immediately
following
her 5 shot win in the 2004 LPGA final qualifying tournament.
She was not only the youngest to ever win the tournament, but
was also the first amateur ever to do so.
Here are just a few things you might find interesting
about this up and coming golf superstar.
Rich: Having acquired the nickname Pink
Panther, what sort of strange pink things
have you acquired from friends or fans?
Paula: One of my favorite
things that I have acquired from a fan was a beautiful pink
handmade bracelet. She was fifteen and was volunteering in the
LPGA tournament in Mexico. She made it for me and I wear it
all the time. Another fan sent me a Pink Panther head cover
that I am currently using on my 3 wood.
Rich:
I understand that Lorie Kane is your big sister on tour this year. How has she helped you adapt to life on the
tour so far?
Paula: Lorie and I get
along very well and she has helped me get used to life out on
tour. We play practice rounds as much as we can and she helps
me with some course knowledge at the different tournaments.
It is always good to have a veteran like Lorie to be able to
talk to about different things.
Rich: Who were you most excited about meeting
since your rise to fame began?
Paula: I was most excited
about meeting Juli Inkster, Nancy Lopez, and of course Annika
Sorenstam.
Rich:
Whats the strangest place anyone has ever asked you for
an autograph?
Paula: I was in a restaurant
in a very small town eating sushi and this man with his family
recognized me and asked me for my autograph. I was not in golf
cloths and quite removed from any golf venue.
Rich: What do you like doing on your days off
when you are out on tour?
Paula: I love to shop
on my off days. I also enjoy getting manicures and pedicures.
I try and pamper myself every once and a while. My nails don't
last too long due to my golf but I try to always have nice nails.
Sometimes I just hang out with my friends too.
