Welcome to the Player Profile.

Each Month I will post photographs of one of today's leading LPGA players and a brief question and answer session.

LPGA Player Jenna Daniels

Jenna Daniels

Jenna Daniels has played on the LPGA Tour since 2000.  Before that she tore up the Pac-10 as a Wildcat at the University of Arizona, where she was the Pac-10 champion in 1998.  She was also the NCAA West Regional champion 1999 and went on to become the NCAA champion and player of the year in 2000.  We recently talked with Jenna following the Safeway Classic in Portland, Oregon.

Rich:  Do you and your caddie watch the leader board much during a round?

Jenna:  I must admit I am a leader board watcher.  I try not to look but those leader boards are so big and behind about half of the greens.  It would really be pretty difficult not to look.  I always like to know where I stand especially coming down the stretch.

Rich:  What makes a really good caddie and where does yours stand out in that department?

Jenna:  Currently I don't have a full time caddy.  I have picked up a new caddy at every event.  I think the most important quality of a caddy, other than the traditional show up, shut up and keep up, is to be calm and collected at all times.  There's nothing worse than a hyper active caddy.  The best caddies are the ones that are so even tempered that an observer could not tell whether his player was 4 under or 4 over.

Rich:  What's your favorite thing to do other than golf?

Jenna:  My favorite thing to do other than golf would have to be Georgia football games.  My husband is the golf coach at Georgia so we go to all of the home games and a few away games.  We usually tailgate in front of the stadium with a bunch of friends and then enjoy the game from the 40 yard line.  The atmosphere at a Georgia football game is something special.

Rich:  In your mind, what players are key to drawing the fans out these days?  Is it more of the rookie phenoms or the veterans?

Jenna:  I think the reason why the LPGA is so hot right now is because we have a mixture of young talent and veteran hall of famers who are all competing at such a high level.  The golf is getting better and better each year and there is so much youth out on tour that the future looks amazing.

Rich:  What’s the most embarrassing thing you or your caddie have done in a tournament?

Jenna:  I don't know about how embarrassing this is but the funniest thing that has happened to me involves another player named Beth Daniel.  Obviously our last names are pretty similar and get mixed up quite a bit.  I was walking down the fairway with my caddy and overheard a lady talking to her husband about how great I looked for being in my forties (she thought I was Beth).  I told Beth this story and she laughed and said at least she didn't call you my daughter.

Rich:  Travel Day:  Take me through a typical one.  How do you spend your days off during a tournament?

Jenna:  Travel days are pretty boring.  My typical travel day involves flying  to the next event, doing some laundry, and resting up.  I don't usually go to the golf course on travel days because it is my one day I have off in the entire week.

Rich:  Wildcat or Bulldawg?

Jenna:  That's a tough one.  I have to say I am half cat and half dog.
