OSU BEAVERS WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!
The Oregon State Beavers take the hard way to the championship game, losing their first game of the series to Miami 11-1. They made a gutsy comeback on Monday night beating the Georgia Bulldogs and extending their stay by one more day. Tuesday they got an opportunity to get even with Miami and did it convincingly with an 8-1 victory. Wednesday brought Rice, the number 1 or 2 ranked team all season, and the Beavers shot down the Owls and bought them another day here at the College World Series.. Thursday brought Rice back for a little re-fried dinner and the explosion at the Hilton occurred when the team arrived to be greeted by a hundred or so faithful fans. Friday was a needed day off and Saturday the championship series begins.
Saturday nights game between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Beavers was a scrappy one, but the Tar Heels prevailed and left the Beavers with their backs up against the wall once again. They’ve played well under that pressure so far and Sunday’s game was no different. With North Carolina leading 5-0 going into the 4th inning it was pretty quiet in the Beaver sections of Rosenblatt Stadium. Well, as I said, the Beavers can play pretty well with their backs against the wall. The Beavers fourth inning rally was sparked by Shea McFeeley’s double. Mitch Canham walked and the two base runners were escorted around the diamond courtesy of Bill Rowe’s homer that woke up the right field bleachers. The once bleak fans shook the stadium through the 9th inning and the Beavs walked away with the 11-7 win. Kevin Gunderson, came in in the fourth inning and pitched his longest game of the year. The party resumed at the Hilton once again and the series goes to a final game tonight at 6:00.
Go Beavs!
Monday: Well, I am speachless. North Carolina put up 2 runs in the 4th, but the Beavs managed to score an extra run in the 8th. Dallas Buck and Kevin Gunderson (The Vulture) held off the Tar Heels the final two innings to cap an amazing run for the National Championship. Here are just a few of the photos.
